Compassion and a need to act marked the feelings that overcame members of the Society of Latin Doctors of Tampa Bay once Hurricane María struck Puerto Rico. In the wake of the hurricane, the Society experienced a surge in membership as young doctors from Puerto Rico established their practice in the area. These new members joined others in pressing the Society to find ways to channel much needed help to the storm-ravished island. After reviewing their options, the Board decided to create a 10- day fundraising campaign that collected $38,000 from doctors in Tampa as well as from others. The Board approved an additional donation of $2,000 from its funds to reach $40,000. From afar, they made their presence felt through their generosity.
